A little while ago I had the pleasure to work with the brothers Anson and Hugh Hartford, the producer and director behind the documentary film "Ping-Pong, never too old for gold". The film follows 8 ping pong players over 80 years old and their journey to the World Championships in Ping Pong for over 80's in China. I had the pleasure of photographing the amazingly inspirational Les Darcy who is 89 years old and a champion in Ping Pong as well as a 'champion in life'.
The film has just premiered and I went to see it yesterday. It was an impressive event, inviting all spectators to play ping pong afterwards - but an even more impressive and inspirational film that leaves you with a lust for life and ping pong. I was in no doubt that Les was an energetic and inspirational 89 year old after having spent a day with him up North but the film had managed to gather 8 very different over 80's who were all impressive in their own way. This is truly the Olympic feel good film of the year. A must see for anyone who thinks life is over after 79.
